Today, I’m sharing the composite sketch of ‘Moonface’ with the public, a man suspected of surveilling Rosetta’s family in Holyoke, MA, and Rome, NY, shortly after my Aunt Pie’s murder in 1957. That’s a vast 170 mile distance. A white wealthy man in a full-length cashmere coat on South Canal St. in South Holyoke, standing in front of a long expensive car, watching a Black family in 1957. Aunt DD said she looked down and saw him from the third floor window. She knew he was out of place and behaving suspiciously. Then she saw him at their new home in Rome, NY a while after, just observing the family in the same manner.

Despite the suspect likely being deceased, identifying him could be a crucial clue in solving the case.

But first, a little backstory. The renewal of my interest in Aunt Pie’s murder case started about three months ago when I met my young cousin Justin for lunch to discuss the family history in my hopes of passing the family archive to the next generation. I had been documenting oral stories since 1992 or so…about 32 years, so I was happy to see a newer generation step up. He casually mentioned the story of my Aunt Rosetta (Pie’s) murder, and I said I was aware of it, but hadn’t thought about it since I was a teenager.

Shortly thereafter, I met Aunt DD for lunch. She was just about to turn 10 years old when Pie was murdered, and she recalled a memory of a man from her childhood in vivid detail as we shared fries at Red Robin.

Aunt DD, who was only 10 at the time, bravely shared her recollections of the man. Subsequently we talked about her memories over the past several weeks and I created a sketch of the man and we refined the features of the sketch over that period, then I used AI visualizations to refine the image after 20 or more iterations.

She said he appeared to be a wealthy man of means, over 6 feet tall, stocky but not fat, with a large “Moonface”. She said he was possibly a doctor, because during that period there were many doctors making house calls and showing their wealth in a similar fashion, big fancy cars and clothes.

She felt, even as a child that he was well appointed and a highly paid professional who had a long upscale car from that period.

Initially she observed him from a window, then later…when in Rome, NY she saw the man again standing on the road just looking.

She remembered him because she said he had a distinctive “Moonface” and milky white complexion that bordered on albinism. She said he and had “very smooth features” and looked like dipictions of the man in the moon.

She estimated his age between 30 and 40 years old. It is possible that the man might have been a doctor of Rosettas?

I also suspect that he could have suffered from Cushing’s syndrome, a condition sometimes called “Moonface Syndrome”

Aunt DD said he was a large man, over 6 feet tall, not fat, but a big man…and he wore an expensive calf-length cashmere coat on those two occasions, one was cashmere colored the other blue.

As we completed the sketch she also remember she could see from the window he had blue eyes, “Like Paul Newman” (Prussian blue?)

It was obvious that Aunt DD felt horrible guilt about not sharing what she witnessed with her parents. After all, the cops and her father were constantly questioning her nieces and nephews about what they might have seen or heard.

But I assured her that she was just a child and could not have been expected to put that together at such a young age. But here we were 66 years later…and I didn’t know what to do with this information. This is what prompted me to start looking at the facts of Aunt Pie’s murder and to start this documentary film project.

I’m now seeking help from experts in AI image construction and visualization to further refine the sketch for citizen investigators and law enforcement.

I’m also looking for anyone who might still be alive who has an idea of who this person from 1957 is? A name, a photograph…any clue as to who he is.

If you have expertise in AI image manipulation, I urge you to come forward and assist us in this investigation. You will be asked to sign a release/agreement to participate. Your skills could be instrumental in uncovering the truth.
